Summertime is here in the United States and while the season brings thoughts of days by the pool and family vacations, summer time for facility maintenance professionals is often filled with concerns about keeping systems working during the extreme heat of summer.
The team at Lenox Hill Construction is experienced with summer facility maintenance challenges and is proud to offer the following tips for helping maintain your facility in the best possible condition during the summer:
Check your HVAC system. If your HVAC system is older or cannot keep up with the demands of the facility, you can overextend costs on your facility energy budgets. Monitoring your HVAC system for refrigerant leaks and the amount of refrigerant being used can help identify potential issues and keep your existing HVAC system running smoothly.
Preventative HVAC maintenance. Following HVAC maintenance schedules, replacing air filters and sensing when the systems are strained during peak cooling related to high temperatures will help the system from becoming overburdened.
Be proactive. From keeping blinds drawn to minimize indoor temperatures to planting higher reaching trees and shrubs by windows that face the sun, you can help minimize the amount of sun that is coming into your building on a daily basis. In addition, setting thermostats to consistent temperatures will help maintain even use of the HVAC system, removing the need for constant starts and stops that can play havoc with your systems.
Outdoor Spaces. Summer heat can easily damage grass, walking areas, exterior windows and siding. If sidewalks crack, seal them as soon as possible to minimize water damage and find ways to repair any other outdoor issues to minimize long term damage.
The combination of summer time heat and summer storms can offer damage to your facilities if precautions and maintenance have not been performed.
